Medicare Counseling or Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (S.H.I.I.P.)

The Pitt County Council on Aging serves as the local coordinating site for the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP).  Aging Services staff and volunteers, trained by the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP), provide unbiased education and counseling to Medicare beneficiaries.  The Medicare counseling program at the Council on Aging is funded in part by Vidant Medical Center Foundation.

Counseling topics include:

  • Medicare Eligibility
  • Medicare Benefits
  • Medicare Supplements
  • Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage
  • Medicare and Other Insurance Coverage

Although Medicare is administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), eligibility and enrollment is handled by the Social Security Administration.
